CP., LIMITED domiciled in China which is a Tanker ship where the accident occurred, the Indonesian Crew member William Tandere who fell into the sea in the Mediterranean Waters. The incident that occurred on November 1, 2024 was a work accident that allegedly occurred due to an error in work procedures. How could the incident that claimed the Indonesian crew member occur during bad weather with winds of around 33 Knots and waves of around 5-6 meters which should not have been allowed to carry out work activities on the deck of the ship with such weather.
Based on the minutes made by MT. TIVY GOLD, the accident began when the crew members were instructed to carry out Tank Cleaning using a Ship’s Crane to lift and move the hose which at the time of the incident the ship’s crane hit the crew member William Tandere which caused him to fall into the sea which has not been found until now.
According to Capt. Arqam, who is the general chairman of Wawasan Hukum Nusantara who is also a practitioner in the shipping world, is not allowed to carry out any activities on the ship’s deck when the wind is above 25 knots and the waves are above 2.5 meters. TIVY GOLD ship in carrying out its routine which then claimed the lives of Indonesian crew members.
There was a slight oddity in the incident, where 5 Indonesian crew members after the work accident had their contracts terminated simultaneously and were sent back to Indonesia. Wawasan Hukum Nusantara has directly submitted a letter of request for an inspection of the MT. TIVY GOLD ship which is currently anchored at Tarakan Port, Lampung to President Prabowo, the Minister of Human Rights, the Minister of Manpower, BNP2TKI and the Director General of Sea Transportation.
The family and heirs are demanding their rights in the form of insurance as well as material and immaterial losses which have not yet been provided by KRONOS SHIPPING. CO., LIMITED.
“KRONOS SHIPPING. CO., LIMITED must immediately fulfill the demands of the heirs and also pay compensation in the form of monthly salary from ABK William Tandere to his family until an agreement is reached between the Victim and the company,” Arqam said.
